Brandis Accessories began in 1981 fabricating home accessories and displays out of acrylic sheet. In 1982 my mother asked me to repair a paperboard sleeve she used on one of her knives. Instead, I made one from a piece of white styrene sheet, but with some modifications. It was open on the long side and a notch was filed at the corners to help guide the knife in. This was the first friction gripping knife sheath of its type.

In late 1982 I made my first knife sheath sale to a local kitchen store and then to a restaurant supplier the following year. In 1983 I started having them extruded by the company that is now known as Absolute Custom Extrusions, Inc. Since then, I had done a lot of business with knife manufacturers that do business in the foodservice industry. This includes supplying them and other companies with sheaths that were sold under their brand. The product was also sold through many independent kitchen stores.
